Mike Pondsmith, the designer of the actual tabletop told, “I’ve been interested and amused by some of the castings so far. Keanu Reeves, for example, wasn’t what I originally envisioned for Johnny, but I kind of cracked up when we figured it out because he fit. Indeed, Mike was even unaware that Reeves was cast to the team. He spoke about the sudden association saying, “I looked at her (his wife) and said: What? No, he would never do that. That’s, like, beyond our pay grade, he’d never do that. Besides, it’s a Cyberpunk thing, how much Cyberpunk does he do?”. Yes, he himself couldn’t believe that the star would agree to work for the project while the plot deployed Cyberpunk at the forefront.
