Why Will Smith won't return in the Suicide Squad sequel?
As we know, the DC Comics film, Suicide Squad was highly conceived as a cultural moment in the trajectory of Hollywood that witnessed major box office success long back in 2016.
Initially, while the film was in the pipeline, reports came up stating that Will Smith won’t return for the role of Deadshot despite Gunn’s wish for the character. Now, if you consider the significance of Deadshot within the universe of the masterpiece along with the captious applaud that Smith earned for his projection, there has to be a reason behind passing on the role by the actor. Else, you can just interpret it in a controversial light.
Cut back to February 2019, Variety reported that The Suicide Squad was on the verge of failing one of its legacies even before it started production. Although nothing was ascertained on the same, it stated that Will Smith had already chosen not to appear in the sequel. However, it was over a clash of schedules which came out evident at a later stage. But his decision didn’t at all contribute for a rift between Smith and its producers.

Well, at the time it wasn’t heard that Smith signed in any upcoming projects officially. And then in the next month, Deadline spilled the bean saying Smith would star in an upcoming film based on tennis adepts, Serena and Venus Williams. Sigh, it sounds secretive now.
Afterwards, the movies’ production and filming timetables overlapped between late 2019 and early 2020. Then, Smith produced as well as starred in King Richard. And the rest is clear as water which seems that his devotion to the film triumphed his reprise as Deadshot.
Last but not the least, there was also some kind of hope that Smith might return to the role in a future instalment while Variety claimed that those within the deal hardly believed about any such chance.
