Meghan & Harry Donate £90k For COVID-19 Relief From Wedding Broadcast

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have vowed to donate £90,000 to the charity Feeding Britain, which is giving hot meals and food packages to the needy. Notably, the money comes from excess profits which were made by the BBC’s coverage of the royal wedding that took place on May 19, 2018, and it was done with an agreement with the BBC as well. However, it was earlier mentioned that the profits were made from the broadcast would go to the charity named by the couple.

Meghan Markle and Harry got to know about the funds amid the coronavirus pandemic which has brought the world into a standstill. The former royal couple wanted the funds to go to a charity which is support by the Archbishop of Canterbury, who organized their marriage ceremony and also the president of Feeding Britain. The couple informed the Archbishop – Justin Welby last month about their decision.

The couple had moved to Canada after announcing their exit from the royal family earlier this year. However, after their official exit from the royal family at the end of March, they have now moved to LA. A spokesman for Meghan and Harry said that they liked the way the organization has been working during the global pandemic novel coronavirus.

Funds are “godsend”?

Andrew Forsey – the national director of the charity thanked the couple for their donation, referring it as “godsend”. He said: “We are incredibly grateful for such generous support which, thank God, will sustain our emergency response to coronavirus until the schools return.”

He further added, “During that time, there are many tens of thousands of children who we are helping to supply with breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. We’re just so grateful that the duke and duchess have contributed to that programme.”

Feeding Britain tries to help people with foods across the UK. They have been running an emergency food programme for the families in 12 areas across the UK amid this crunch situation where hot meals and food packages have been serving via home deliveries. The global pandemic COVID-19 have been affected more than 2 million people whereas more than one lakh people have died across the globe so far.
