Wrestling veteran Konnan, known for his wealth of experience in the industry, recently gave his thoughts on Jey Uso’s emotional outpouring during a powerful promo on RAW.
During the September 30 episode of the flagship Monday Night show, Jey Uso displayed raw emotion as he delivered a heartfelt promo that captivated fans and showcased his genuine passion for the art of professional wrestling.
Former WWE head writer Vince Russo criticized USO’s promo
Uso’s promo drew criticism from former WWE head writer Vince Russo, who said there was no need to get passionate over the victory and called the title a prop. Rikishi was not pleased with this comment, and he shot rounds at Russo.
Even so, the Hall of Famer challenged Vince to a duel. Konnan took the side of Rikishi and Jey Uso on a recent episode of Keepin’ IT 100. The veteran asserted that while traveling, professional wrestlers faced a lot of pressure.
He asserted that after working as a tag team in the WWE for more than ten years, it was only natural for Jey to become emotional upon winning the Intercontinental Championship.
He said “Rikishi brought something up. He goes, my son is out there, traveling away from his family, so is Vince Russo, but there’s a big difference. Vince wasn’t wrestling. That’s a whole other thing.”
“People don’t understand is you go out on the road, besides the fact that you’re leaving your family, you gotta get your tanning in, you gotta get your weight training in. There’s a certain way you’ve gotta act, a certain way you’ve gotta dress, times have to be met, meet and greets, there is so much pressure it’s unbelievable. This guy after 16 years of being a tag team finally won his first title, of course he’s gonna get emotional. That was a very odd take.” He added.
Vince Russo clarified the situation
Vince Russo explained the problem on this week’s Legion of RAW show. The former writer asserted that he was reviewing the show as a viewer and that he had no personal grudges against Rikishi or Jey Uso.
That Rikishi would go personal and criticize him for only expressing his opinion demoralized the writer.
One of the most well-liked babyfaces on the RAW roster is Jey Uso, and the organization is fully behind him as well. It will be intriguing to watch how the next few months unfold for his reign of titles.
