A WWE legend, Ken Shamrock, who achieved great success in the wrestling world, has recently disclosed his feelings about being repeatedly overlooked for induction into the prestigious Hall of Fame.
Despite his absence from television following his last match in 1999, Shamrock has managed to nurture a strong connection with the company, showcasing his enduring passion and dedication to the sport that made him a household name.
This revelation sheds light on the complex and sometimes overlooked personal side of the wrestling industry, highlighting the ongoing impact and legacy of iconic figures like Shamrock.
He was in the company for about two years
Following a fruitful career in mixed martial arts, Shamrock started his time in the WWE in 1997 (MMA). Before departing in September 1999 to pursue his MMA career again, he had been with the organization for around two years. On September 21, that year, he lost his final bout on television to Chris Jericho in a First Blood match.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on the most recent Insight edition, Shamrock was questioned about his chances of being inducted into the Hall of Fame 9130 days after his final performance. The WWE legend said he was only thinking about the subject when people asked, not because he was losing sleep over it.
He said “Obviously, any athlete that goes through a career and has made an impact wants to be recognized, and I do want to be recognized. But I don’t think of it until it’s brought up, right? It’s not something that I dwell on because I felt like everything that I’ve done in my life, I’ve been blessed to have been in those moments,”
He added “What comes after that is just icing on the cake. And if that happens, it’s going to be a true thrill. But, like I said, it’s not something that I lose sleep over. I’ve really enjoyed my journey and very happy with the way my life has turned out.”
“I’ve had a relationship with them forever”
Ken Shamrock talked about his connection with WWE following his dismissal in the same conversation with Chris Van Vliet. Shamrock disclosed that throughout the years, he signed a Legends contract and stayed in touch with the organization.
Shamrock said “I’ve had a relationship with them forever, even since when I went away, we did a legends contract, so I’ve always been a part of them. It’s one of those things where I think I spent enough time there and did enough there that I feel like I’m a part of that family forever,”
While TNA Wrestling enshrined Shamrock into their Hall of Fame back in 2020, the UFC Hall of Fame inducted him in 2003.
