New England Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore found himself in a challenging situation when he was stopped by Providence, R.I., police during the early morning hours of Wednesday.
The encounter didn’t seem to go smoothly, as Barmore, who is currently sidelined due to a diagnosis of blood clots in July, was pulled over at 12:53 a.m. ET. The police report revealed that he was cited for driving with an expired registration and for violations related to his plate cover.
Barmore’s registration expired last week
According to the article, Barmore’s registration expired last week. After having his Jeep hauled, he drove off in a different car. Thirty minutes following the event, Barmore shared a powerful statement on Twitter/X.
He wrote “I just experienced for the first time 5 Providence cops being very unprofessional racism at it’s finest,”
Jerod Mayo, the head coach of the Patriots, stated on Wednesday that he had spoken with Barmore earlier that morning and that the organization is “aware of the situation.”
But Mayo refused to go into more detail. Barmore has had a successful NFL career since the Patriots took him out of Alabama in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
He was one of New England’s finest defensive players last season. Without the 25-year-old defensive tackle, the defense has struggled this season and is giving up 358.8 yards per game, which is 25th in the NFL.
Barmore isn’t the first Patriots player to have a run-in with law enforcement this season
Barmore is not the first player from the New England Patriots to encounter legal issues with law enforcement during this season.
As various incidents involving Patriots players and law enforcement have unfolded in recent months, Barmore’s situation adds to a growing list of off-field concerns for the team.
These incidents have raised questions about player conduct, team culture, and the impact on the organization’s reputation both on and off the field.
