On Thursday, Jay Cutler, the former NFL quarterback, found himself in a predicament as he was arrested by the Franklin Police Department in downtown Franklin, Tennessee, following a minor crash incident.

Cutler, who is 41 years old, faced charges which included driving under the influence, possession of a handgun under the influence, failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision, and implied consent, as detailed in a news release provided by the authorities.

Cutler was taken into custody by police

According to a Williamson County affidavit, officers were dispatched to Bridge Street and 2nd Avenue north in response to a crash report at approximately five o’clock in the evening.

The driver of a GMC who was on the site informed them that a man in a White Ram truck had rear-ended his car and had threatened to give him $2,000 if he didn’t notify the police before trying to take off.

Cutler was approached by an officer, and according to the affidavit, he smelled strongly of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes, was stumbling, wobbling, and slurred his words. Cutler declined to do a conventional field sobriety test as well.

Cutler was placed under arrest by the police, and a local hospital issued a blood search warrant. A loaded handgun was allegedly discovered in the center console and a rifle was purportedly discovered in the rear set of Cutler’s vehicle during a search.

Police said Cutler was taken into Williamson County Jail and later freed on a $5,000 bond. According to the affidavit, Cutler was freed on the condition that he never drive a car without an ignition interlock device—which checks breath alcohol content—or while intoxicated.

Cutler is best known for his 12 season career with the NFL

Cutler gained widespread recognition through his stellar 12-season NFL career, a bulk of which was spent as a prominent figure with the Chicago Bears. Alongside his sports success, Cutler’s personal life also captured public interest.
