Michelle Obama, 60, thought back on a touching, genuine moment between a kid and his sixty-year-old father that had gone viral the previous evening during the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
She wrote on X “I was touched to see Gus Walz’s joy when his dad @Tim_Walz took the stage last night. Thankful for you showing us all what real love looks like, Gus, Let’s be a nation that embraces this kind of warmth and vulnerability, instead of making fun or mocking it. We could all use some of Gus’s [examples] in our own lives,”
She made reference to Walz’s address on Wednesday, August 21, on social media, which clearly moved Gus to tears.
“Hope, Gus and Gwen, you are my entire world, and I love you,”
Minnesota governor Walz accepted his nomination as Kamala Harris’ running mate in the 2024 presidential election, with his wife Gwen and their children, Hope and Gus, in attendance. Walz expressed his love and support for his family.
Gus got up from where he was sitting in the throng, beaming with joy and breaking down in tears as he watched his father after hearing the strong remark.
“That’s my dad” said Gus, breaking down in tears.
Gus has a non-verbal learning disorder
Gus, a child with non-verbal learning disorder, ADHD, and anxiety disorder, is referred to as his “super power” by his parents in an exclusive statement shared with people.
The couple said “When our youngest Gus was growing up, it became increasingly clear that he was different from his classmates, Gus preferred video games and spending more time by himself.”
They continued “When he was becoming a teenager, we learned that Gus has a non-verbal learning disorder in addition to an anxiety disorder and ADHD, conditions that millions of Americans also have. We love our Gus, We are proud of the man he’s growing into, and we are so excited to have him with us on this journey.”
Mr and Mrs Obama spoke at DNC
Michelle Obama and Barack Obama addressed the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Tuesday, August 20.
Michelle Obama discussed the possibility of hope for the United States if Harris were to win the presidency while addressing the crowd.
She said “America — hope is making a comeback, the chance to vanquish the demons of fear, division and hate that have consumed us.”
She added “To be honest, I am realizing that until recently, I have mourned the dimming of that hope. And maybe you have experienced the same feelings: That deep pit in my stomach, a palpable sense of dread about the future,”
Barack Obama criticized Trump for his childish nicknames, conspiracy theories, and crowd size obsession, prompting the crowd to consider the upcoming election.
He said “The people who will decide this election are asking a very simple question: Who will fight for me? Who’s thinking about my future? About my children’s future? About our future together? One thing is for certain — Donald Trump is not losing sleep over that question.”
