The Republican nominee for vice president, JD Vance, refuted reports that two members of Donald Trump’s campaign fought with an official at Arlington National Cemetery earlier this week.
On Wednesday, at a campaign event in Erie, Pennsylvania, Vance played down the incident and said that it was being overblown by the media. He accused the media of fabricating a national news story out of the entire situation.
Ohio Senator admits to a disagreement with staff at Arlington Cemetery, stating that the media is creating a story about the altercation, despite the fact that he doesn’t believe there is one.
Withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan was a disaster
Meanwhile, Donald Trump posted a campaign video on TikTok that shows him visiting graves, posing for photos with Gold Star families, and participating in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery
The visit marked the third anniversary of an attack on American forces during the US withdrawal from Afghanistan following the Taliban’s takeover.
Trump made a political remark, boasting that the US had not lost one person in 18 months in Afghanistan under his administration, and criticized the withdrawal as a “disaster” that resulted in the deaths of 13 soldiers under Joe Biden’s presidency.
The cemetery later confirmed the “incident”
According to a report by NPR, there was an alleged altercation that occurred between two members of the Trump team and a cemetery official. The incident escalated when the cemetery official was verbally abused and physically pushed aside by the campaign officials after they were informed that only authorized personnel could capture photos or video in Section 60.
Later thereafter, the cemetery filed a report and confirmed the “incident.” Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung denied any physical altercation in response to the NPR story, saying they are prepared to release footage if such defamatory claims are made.
