During his controversial visit to Washington, D.C., Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is staying at a hotel. A video of the hotel, which was posted on Wednesday, revealed a lot of maggots, crickets, and other pests moving around
“Palestine protestors manufactured chaos at the Watergate Hotel last night so that Netanyahu, Israeli Mossad agents, and the Secret Service had no peace as they continue to terrorize our people,” The post said.
The Palestinian Youth Movement, a grassroots advocacy group, uploaded the video on Instagram and claimed it was a form of protest for the war in Hamas.
With the American and Israeli flags in the background, the video depicts maggots scuttling across what looks to be a sizable conference table draped in a white tablecloth and holding water glasses. It also depicts fire alarms going off in the hotel’s corridors and cockroaches scuttling across marble floors in other areas. The post claimed that the critters were released on multiple floors and that fire alarms were set off for over 30 minutes.
The Hotel Management cited the incident as unfortunate and said that the necessary steps will be taken to sanitize the property and to make sure this does not repeat.
Boycott of Netanyahu’s Speech
Roughly half of House and Senate Democrats skipped Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu‘s address to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday, according to an Axios headcount.
Many lawmakers, particularly progressive Israel critics, made clear they were explicitly boycotting the event in protest of Netanyahu’s prosecution of the war in Gaza.
Congress hears from Netanyahu “Your fight is Israel’s fight” in the face of demonstrations and boycotts
Benjamin Netanyahu spoke before a boisterous joint session of US Congress that was boycotted by dozens of Democratic members and protested by thousands outside the US Capitol. He praised US backing for Israel’s assault in Gaza but provided few details on ceasefire discussions.
Before meeting with Joe Biden at the White House on Thursday, some had hoped that Netanyahu would make an announcement about the status of a ceasefire and the release of Israeli hostages. However, in a ferocious address in the House chamber, Netanyahu called for “total victory” in the nine-month-old conflict.
We’re not just defending ourselves, either. You’re safe with us. As House and Senate Republicans stood to celebrate the Israeli prime minister, Netanyahu yelled, “Our enemies are your enemies, our fight is your fight, and our victory will be your victory.”
