Philonise Floyd, brother of George Floyd, has endorsed Tim Walz, Kamala Harris’ running mate, after attending the funeral of Daunte Wright, a Black man killed by Minnesota police in 2021. Floyd, who was murdered by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin in 2020.
“He’s a family man with a good heart.”
Philonis said “For him to take the time out his day to speak at the funeral, I gotta give him kudos, He’s a family man with a good heart.”
Walz was only one year into his first tenure as Governor of Minnesota when George was assassinated. Philonise believes Walz is a good contender because of his compassion and commitment to accountability for George’s horrible execution.
Philonis also added “He’s built for this, “He’s built for this fight that he’s going to go through and I think he can do it.”
Philonise praised Walz’s leadership, citing his admiration for his decision to appoint Keith Ellison as the prosecution leader in George’s death, which led to the conviction of all involved officers.

Philonis while admiring Walz said “At first, he was just a regular governor, just looking like a politician, Then, he stood up and he put Keith Ellison in place as the prosecutor, and that showed a lot of people he was not playing. He was serious. If it wasn’t for Governor Walz, we would not be able to walk around and say that we got some accountability.”
Philonise stated that he was originally thrilled to learn that Walz was a possible contender for Harris’ running mate, and was subsequently overjoyed to learn that he had been officially selected. He said “Mr Walz, I can’t say anything bad about him. I really just want to shake his hand right now. Sometimes, it’s the people that you don’t see every day, those are the people that have the best advice. He’s ready,”
Philonise expressed his willingness to assist Walz and Harris on the campaign trail, including in their preparations for the White House race, stating that he would provide any information related to their situation.
