On Wednesday (Sep 4) in the US state of Georgia, a tragic incident unfolded at a high school where a 14-year-old gunman took the lives of four individuals, among them two students and two teachers, while injuring nine others in a horrifying shooting spree.

Shockingly, the assailant, who was also a student at the school, had been under the surveillance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for more than a year due to concerns about threats related to a potential school shooting.

A minor gunman will be charged with murder and tried as an adult in the shooting near Winder, Georgia, approximately 45 miles northeast of Atlanta.

Shooter was brought to its attention more than a year ago

The FBI said on Wednesday that the shooter had been on their radar for more than a year. He came to their attention after the county sheriff’s office interviewed the then-13-year-old suspect and his father.

Despite the child’s denial of any threats during the investigation, school officials were advised to closely monitor his behavior. Sheriff Jud Smith told the media that it was still unclear whether the shooter had specific targets in mind or the shootings were random.

Additionally, the officials have yet to identify the weapon used in the attack.

The school resource officer managed to take down the gunman.

According to County Sheriff Smith, the officer engaged him.

“The shooter quickly realized that if he did not give up that it would end with an OIS — an officer-involved shooting. He gave up, got on the ground, and the deputy took him into custody.” He said.

“We cannot continue to accept this as normal,”

Donald Trump criticized the shooter as a “sick and deranged monster” following the shooting, while President Joe Biden mourned the dead.

“Students across the country are learning how to duck and cover instead of how to read and write. We cannot continue to accept this as normal,” said Biden.

Democratic Party presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris, while addressing a campaign event in New Hampshire, passionately emphasized the urgent need to put an end to the pervasive “epidemic of gun violence” that continues to plague our nation, urging for decisive action to protect the safety and well-being of all Americans.
