Liverpool manager Arne Slot expressed his lack of surprise at the exceptional display by Mohamed Salah during its 2-0 Champions League triumph against Bologna on Wednesday.
Slot firmly believes that Salah’s prowess as a consistent goal scorer sets him apart as a player who can always be relied upon to find the back of the net with remarkable consistency.
It was Salah’s third goal in his last three games
Salah assisted Alexis MacAllister’s goal with a precise cross before scoring his own with a rocket to the top corner for an incredible 49th Champions League goal. Salah scored his third goal in his previous three outings, following a three-game dry spell.
Slot said “Before (last week’s League Cup win over West Ham United), Mo played three games without scoring a goal. So it is in football, it can happen that sometimes in three games, you score one or you don’t score, But these players, like Mo, they will always score their goals if you just keep playing them.”
The boss did not speculate on Salah’s future at the Merseyside club. Salah has stated that this will be his final season at Anfield, and his contract expires at the end of current one.
“Mo has done really well today”
Slot said “Mo has done really well today, and I’m happy with the way he does at the moment, and I’m not looking forward to next season,”
The 46-year-old Dutch manager is the first to lead the side to eight victories in nine games in all competitions since taking over for Jurgen Klopp during the off-season. His squad is now ranked fifth out of 36 teams in the Champions League after winning its first two games. It leads the Premier League as well. But Slot dismissed the compliment.
He stated “I don’t draw many conclusions from that, but it’s nice. So many incredible managers have worked here, doing so many special things, The only thing is I hope it is not the only thing people remember me for in two or three years or however long I am here. If all they say is, ‘that’s the manager who won eight out of nine!’
“I’m hoping to do more special things than just win eight out of my first nine games.” He added.
He gave Klopp credit for the team he inherited as well. He said “It also says how I have been left this club — the work rate the players put in, how the staff are helping me get these results,”
