Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed his contentment during his statement on Saturday, mentioning that he is “happy” that the hearing which will delve into the club’s numerous alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial regulations is scheduled to commence this coming Monday.

The hearing starts on Monday

The hearing is scheduled to begin on Monday and is anticipated to last for approximately ten weeks, according to various media reports.

Manches City was charged in February 2023 following a four-year investigation into allegations that the club failed to give accurate financial information between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons, as well as failure to comply with UEFA’s financial fair play laws between 2013-14 and 2017-18. If found guilty, City may face a point deduction, a fine, or perhaps expulsion from the league.

Guardiola said “I am happy that it starts on Monday, I know there will be more rumors and new specialists about the sentences will come up. We are going to see. I know what people are looking for, I know what they are expecting.”

“Everybody is innocent until guilt is proven. An independent panel will decide, and I’m looking forward to the decision.” He added.

The length of time it has taken for the hearing to start has drawn criticism for the Premier League.

In May 2023, Guardiola stated “What I would like is that the Premier League or the judges could make [a decision] as soon as possible. Then, if we did something wrong, everyone will know it.”

He also added “Hopefully, they are not so busy and the judges can see it and listen to both sides and… decide what is the best, because in the end I know fairly what we won we won on the pitch because we deserve it,”

“That’s very frustrating because it takes so much”

Khaldoon Al Mubarak, the city chairman, was likewise aggravated by the wait. He said That’s very frustrating because it takes so much (away) from the great work that’s happening in this club and it’s happening not just on the football pitch,”

Premier League CEO Richard Masters emphasized the importance of resolving the situation and emphasized the need for the case to be heard.

In 2020, City’s two-season exile from European soccer in 2020 was the result of “serious breaches” of FFP rules. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) later reversed the ban and lowered the $34 million fine that went along with it to $11.3 million, finding that City had not complied with UEFA’s rules.

There are other disagreements between City and the Premier League besides the hearing about the more than 100 suspected charges.

According to The Times, City filed a lawsuit in June 2024 in response to the league’s Associated Party Transaction regulations, which mandate that sponsorship and commercial agreements between businesses controlled by or connected to the owners of the same club be subject to an impartial league evaluation.
