Paul Pogba, the talented midfielder renowned for his skills on the pitch, has expressed a resolute determination to make his comeback in football after facing a suspension due to a positive test for a prohibited substance back in August 2023.
Despite the setback, Pogba remains focused on his recovery and is eagerly preparing to rejoin the field, eager to prove his abilities and dedication to the sport that he loves.
“I am not a cheater”
The Juventus player received a four-year penalty in February after being placed under temporary suspension in September of last year by the national anti-doping tribunal in Italy (NADO Italia).
After Juventus defeated Udinese 3-0, NADO Italia reported that testosterone, which may be used to improve physical endurance, was found in the midfielder’s system. This information led to the temporary ban. Pogba, an unutilized substitute, was on the bench.
In an Interview, Pogba stated “People know me. When they saw it happened, they knew it was not on purpose. This is totally the truth. I am an honest person. I would say it,”
“I am not a cheater, I am someone who loves my sport and loves the game. I don’t like to cheat, I like to win fairly. People know that. I am a bad loser but I am not a cheater.” He added.
“I would love to be on the pitch, any pitch”
Pogba went on to say that he accepted “responsibility” for inadvertently consuming the chemical through a supplement, but he questioned the duration of his suspension.
Reuters reports that the Court of Arbitration for Sport shortened it from four years to eighteen months earlier this month, allowing him to resume playing soccer in March 2025.
“For sure that means I take responsibility that I took the supplement and I did not triple check, even though it came from a professional, If I have to be punished, I am fine with it, but it should never be four years. I will accept 12 months.” He said.
Pogba, who is under contract with Juventus of Italy until June 2026, also mentioned that he briefly thought about giving up on his career after the suspension but quickly changed his mind.
“It came to my mind. As soon as it did, I threw it away, I did not want to think about this,” he said.
He also stated “I would love to be on the pitch, any pitch. First, Juventus – I want to start training with teammates. It’s tough training alone, it passes by yourself. The main focus is to get back training and fit, to be on the pitch and do what I love.”
