Manchester United, amid speculations, are actively monitoring the managerial situation with Eddie Howe, indicating a potential interest in him as they prepare for a potential replacement for Erik ten Hag.
As pressure mounts on the Dutchman at Old Trafford, the Red Devils are meticulously compiling a roster of potential candidates to consider as his successor, with Howe emerging as a significant figure in their assessments.
Howe is one of the front runners
Howe, the head coach of Newcastle United, is among the front-runners, according to Football Insider. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, United’s new partial owner, is keen to recruit the Englishman to the team after seeing him play.
According to reports, Howe has had disagreements with the Newcastle United board and may soon depart from the Magpies. Newcastle is attempting to resolve the conflict between him and Paul Mitchell, the new sporting director, because he is not thrilled with him.
If they split with Ten Hag, Manchester United hopes to seize the opportunity to entice the former manager of Bournemouth. With just two victories in five Premier League games and a 1-1 draw against FC Twente in the UEFA Europa League, the Dutchman’s season has started poorly.
“I think the treatment of Erik ten Hag over the summer wasn’t great”
In an interview with Sports Casting, Mark Lawrenson hinted that Manchester United may be searching for Erik ten Hag’s replacements. He claimed that the Dutch manager had not gone far enough and that if the team sees another set of dismal results, they would accept the decision to separate ways.
He said “I think the treatment of Erik ten Hag over the summer wasn’t great. They were hawking around looking at potential suitors for Ten Hag’s job, I thought at one stage that he’d had enough and might just walk away. Since then, it looks like they’ve kissed and made up.”
He also added “I’m still not convinced with United but I do think they’ll be better this season. Will they be good enough to appease their owners, I’m not sure. I think if they have another slump, Ten Hag will get sacked. It seems like they’re waiting for that to happen,”
But earlier this month, the CEO of Manchester United discussed Ten Hag and asserted that the Red Devils were completely in favor of it.
Omar Berrada said “We’re very happy with that decision [to give Ten Hag a new contract]. Erik has our full backing and we have worked very closely together in this transfer window. We’re going to continue working very closely with him to help him get the best results out of the team. Do we still believe in Erik? Absolutely. We think Erik is the right coach for us and we’re fully backing him.”
In addition to Eddie Howe, Thomas Tuchel has also been connected to the position at Old Trafford. Graham Potter and Gareth Southgate have both been mentioned as potential candidates for the position.
