Joe Cole Believes Antony’s Time At Old Trafford Is Over

Joe Cole Suggests Antony’s Time at Old Trafford Might Be Coming to an End

Joe Cole doubts Antony’s future at Manchester United

Former Chelsea star Joe Cole, known for his insightful analysis, recently expressed concerns about Manchester United winger Antony’s career trajectory. Cole’s evaluation of the situation suggested a grim outlook for the Brazilian player at Old Trafford.

He emphasized the persistent challenges Antony has faced this season, leading him to doubt the winger’s ability to reverse his fortunes in the near future. Cole’s assessment underscores a sense of skepticism regarding Antony’s potential to flourish within Manchester United’s current environment.

The Brazilian has failed to live up to expectations

According to Sky Sports, Manchester United reportedly paid an incredible £86 million to sign Antony from Ajax in August 2022. Over the past few seasons, the Brazilian has fallen short of expectations, which has led to continual criticism and speculation about his future.

The player’s current circumstances appear to be growing worse. This season, he has participated in just one Premier League match, logging just one minute of action following his substitution from the bench during Brighton’s 1-2 defeat.

Speaking about the Brazilian’s predicament at Old Trafford, Joe Cole expressed reservations about his prospects of improving because he is unable to handle the intensity of the Premier League.

He said “The problem with Antony at Manchester United is I think he’s a player that is perfect for the Dutch league,”

“I think the physicality of the Premier League is something he struggles with. He’s a talented footballer with great technique and skill, and it was good to see him playing well against Barnsley, but I don’t see him making an impact in the United starting team this season and I can’t see him turning it around at Manchester United,” he added.

“With Antony, I think he’s playing for a move away from the club and I think United will move past him. He’s not an old player and he should be coming into his prime in the next few years, so I think he’s probably best suited to other leagues.” He concluded.

It’s important to note that there have already been reports about Antony possibly leaving Old Trafford. The attacker is reportedly seeking for a loan transfer before the winter transfer window opens, according to Sky Sports.

Erik ten Hag’s men have recorded three wins in six games

Manchester United will be eager to go back to winning ways when they meet FC Twente in the Europa League this Wednesday after playing to a goalless draw with Crystal Palace in the Premier League over the weekend.

Following that, they’ll pick up where they left off in the Premier League, facing Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Sunday, September 29. With that, they will end September and begin October with a match on October 3 against FC Porto.

Thus far in six games across all tournaments, Erik ten Hag’s team has three victories, one tie, and two losses to their name. Currently, with seven points after five games, they are ranked eleventh in the league rankings.
