Atletico Madrid won’t sell tickets for next five away games due to sanctions

Atletico Madrid announced that they will be withholding ticket sales for their upcoming five away matches from their season ticket holders. This decision comes as a response to two sanctions imposed on the club by UEFA and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), affecting the La Liga side.

As a result, fans who hold season tickets will not have access to purchasing tickets for these specific fixtures, in compliance with the regulatory measures set forth by the governing soccer bodies.

Atletico was fined 30,000 euros

Last week, Spanish club Atletico Madrid faced disciplinary action when they were fined 30,000 euros ($32,568.00) by UEFA for selling tickets to away fans despite their involvement in “racist discriminatory” behavior during an intense match against Benfica.

This punishment also included a suspended ban, highlighting the severity of the situation and the importance of stamping out discriminatory conduct in football.

The incident occurred in the midst of Atletico’s disappointing 4-0 loss to the Portuguese side in the prestigious Champions League competition, underscoring the need for clubs and fans alike to condemn such unacceptable behavior and embrace a spirit of inclusivity and respect in the sport.

Next three home matches with partial stadium closures

Earlier this month, in response to the suspension of the match against Real Madrid due to objects being thrown onto the pitch, the team was further penalized by RFEF with the directive to conduct the next three home matches with partial stadium closures.

This decision not only impacted the team’s playing conditions but also highlighted the repercussions of fan misconduct and the importance of ensuring a safe and secure environment for all stakeholders involved in these high-stakes matches.

Atletico stated “The damage caused to the image of Atletico and its fans, the vast majority of whom have behaved in an exemplary manner, is difficult to repair, The seriousness of the matter and the responsibility to look after the image of our club has forced the entity to take this measure while all those involved in such incidents are identified.”
