Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso expressed admiration for the efficiency displayed by his team, applauding their precise execution and systematic approach during their commanding 4-0 victory over Feyenoord in the Champions League on Thursday.
The Bundesliga champions’ performance exemplified the well-known German traits of discipline and effectiveness, leaving observers in awe of their clinical and dominant display on the field.
“It may have looked pretty easy, but it’s really not,”
After his team’s win Alonso said “It may have looked pretty easy, but it’s really not,”
Leverkusen took some time to adjust to Feyenoord’s pressing game, but after that, the first half was fully completed. With just five shots on goal at halftime, the German team was ahead 4-0.
“Overall it was a very serious, very efficient performance from us, but it’s never easy,” said Alonso.
Dutch star Jeremie Frimpong praised his homecoming against Feyenoord as a special game, describing the team’s dominant performance in the first half.
“We got destroyed in four key moments in the first half”
Feyenoord coach Brian Priske, attempting to replace Arne Slot, viewed the 4-0 defeat as “not pretty.”
When asked if Feyenoord wasn’t prepared to compete in the Champions League after the crushing defeat, Priske said “I think that’s the easy and logical conclusion, yes.”
“We got destroyed in four key moments in the first half. They showed the quality we of course knew they had… we had to play the perfect game,” he added.
Though he acknowledged that Leverkusen slackened off following the four-goal first half, he nonetheless commended his team for displaying their fighting spirit in the second half.
He said “They really tried to show the supporters that we were trying to die with our boots on. But of course, we’re not happy with the result,”
“It’s definitely a hard time in this moment, but I’m a big believer that that’s where you show your strength as a person and also as a player or a coach, I’m going to get up tomorrow and I’m going to do everything I can to prepare the boys to be even better.” He added.
