Former Chelsea footballer Chris Sutton has expressed confidence in Liverpool’s ability to secure a 2-1 victory against Manchester United during their upcoming Premier League clash at Old Trafford scheduled for this Sunday.
Sutton’s endorsement of Liverpool’s success underscores his belief in the team’s strong performance potential against their arch-rivals in this highly anticipated match.
“Manchester United got the better of Liverpool on a couple of occasions last year”
The Reds, led by Arne Slot, have started their 2024-25 Premier League season with two consecutive wins and no goal conceded. Manchester United, on the other hand, has recorded one win and one loss, scoring two goals and allowing two both against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Sutton expressed his thoughts on Manchester United’s impending home game versus Liverpool. The 51-year-old writes “Manchester United got the better of Liverpool on a couple of occasions last year. They won [4-3] in the FA Cup [quarter-final match last season] and you’re sort of scratching your head about how they won that particular one.”
He also added “Liverpool under Arne Slot are not so sort of heavy metal. Whatever I predict about Manchester United, I get them wrong… I’m just resigned to the fact I cannot predict a Manchester United result. I’m going to say Liverpool to beat them.”
Liverpool have registered five wins and just one loss in 10
In their last ten Premier League games against the Red Devils, Liverpool has won five and lost only one, scoring 26 goals.
Red Devils star Mason Mount shared a message on Instagram earlier this week following a muscular issue.
He wrote “During the last game, I picked up a minor muscle issue. I’ve had it checked and it looks like I’ll be out for a few games. Leading up to and during pre-season, I worked hard to get my fitness back to where it needs to be and I felt re-energised, sharp and ready.”
He also added “I wanted you [fans] to hear it directly from me how frustrated I am, as I expect you are too. I will do everything possible to be back in the best shape and help the team.”
Mount, a £60 million transfer from Chelsea, has scored once in 23 matches for the Red Devils. United is expected to start a troika with Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, and Casemiro this weekend.
