LOL Worlds 2024 Swiss Stage: Draw, Format, and Key Details Revealed as Teams Prepare for a New and Exciting Tournament Structure

All you need to know about LOL Worlds 2024 Swiss stage

In the upcoming Worlds 2024 Swiss stage, the top 16 teams from around the globe will engage in intense competition as they strive to outmatch each other and secure a coveted place in the quarterfinals, showcasing their skills and strategies to a global audience eagerly anticipating the clash of titans set to unfold on the prestigious esports stage.

The top 16 teams won’t be placed into four different groups

The Swiss stage will still be available to the top 16 teams at Worlds after the new format is introduced. The top 16 teams will not be divided into four groups as in the previous version. Rather, teams will be able to compete against each other based on their performance.

The Swiss format makes cross-regional matches more interesting by allowing viewers to see matches against teams from the same region, even though thrilling group deaths are not guaranteed. This is because, except from the first draw, seeding is not particularly important.

Teams will only play against other teams with the same record following each round, so those with great performances will play against teams of a similar caliber, while those with poorer results will have an opportunity to rally.

Teams who win two of their matches will move on to the Qualification matches, where they will face off in a best-of-three match to earn a spot in the Knockout round (top 8).

There will be five rounds in all. Similarly, in the Bo3 elimination rounds, teams with two losses will have to battle for survival. There will be 13 Bo3 matches and 20 Bo1 games overall, ensuring intense action for the whole stage.

Pools of Top 16 teams

The Round 1 matchups are determined by the pool, also known as seeding. Pool 1 teams will play against Pool 4 teams, and Pool 2 teams will play against Pool 3 teams. Nonetheless, games between teams from the same region will be permitted, unlike last year. Rematches will not be permitted during the Swiss round.

  • Pool 1: HLE, BLG, G2, FLY
  • Pool 2: Gen.G, TES, FNC, TL
  • Pool 3: DK, LNG, T1, WBG
  • Pool 4: MDK, GAM, PNG, PSG (play-in teams)

Rounds

Round 1: Teams will play a Bo1 match against the drawn team to start the Swiss stage’s first round.

Round 2: The eight teams with a perfect record will play each other in the second round, while the eight other losing teams will compete in the four remaining games.

Round 3: Four teams with 2-0 (unbeaten) records, eight teams with 1-1 records, and four teams with two losses will compete in round 3. Teams in the same category will face these three groupings.

The top four teams will compete in a best-of-three series in this phase, with the winners advancing to the knockout round. The losing teams will experience the same scenario. Instead, Bo1s will still be played by teams with a 1-1 score. The Worlds odyssey will come to an end for the two teams who lose in the elimination rounds.

Round 4: There will be 12 teams remaining after two teams are already through to the next round and two teams are eliminated. Six teams at 2-1 will compete against one another in best-of-three matches during the qualification rounds, according to the Swiss stage.

Six more teams with a record of 1-2 will square off in best-of-three matches; the losing team is out of the Worlds.

Round 5: There will be six teams remaining with 2-2 scores in the last and final round. Every team will have to compete in best-of-three matches, with the top three teams moving on to the knockout stage to face the other five teams.
