A new organization has emerged in the realm of esports within Scotland, known as the Community Interest Company (CIC) called Scottish Esports.

This initiative, spearheaded by esports lecturer and former British Esports Federation employee Mark McCready, in collaboration with Dale Murray from the Scottish Esports Network and professional Street Fighter player Assad ‘Suleymon’ Suliman, aims to position itself as the designated national governing body for the esports community in Scotland.

Scottish Esports claims it will manage the national esports teams

With regard to gaming and esports, the recently established Scottish Esports aims to cover all the bases. The company will prioritize helping all players, from casual to competitive esports players on teams, as well as the larger gaming community, according to a release.

The company has announced that it will build instructional tools, conduct in-person events and run workshops as well as hosting online activities and initiatives to engage the Scottish gaming and esports community.

Like its Welsh counterpart Esports Wales, Scottish Esports claims it will oversee the national esports teams that represent Scotland in international events. Esports Insider has gotten in touch to request more information about how this would operate.

“We’re building a community”

Mark McCready, CEO of Scottish Esports said “We’re not only building a strong and passionate foundation for competitive video gaming in Scotland — we’re building a community.”

He also added “By delivering national-scale stability, we’re committed to creating a welcoming, safe, and inclusive space where players and teams of all levels can thrive and feel supported. It’s an exciting time for us all to inspire the next generation to learn and explore esports in a more encouraging and positive environment.”

On X, Dale Murray—who identifies as Scottish Esports’ Brand Director—added: “Scotland’s long lacked a singular body to be the voice of the industry — this changes today.”

Scottish Esports is not affiliated with Esports Scotland, a national event organizer that used to handle several tasks typically performed by a national esports organization, like player selection for the Commonwealth Esports Championships.

Esports Scotland came under heavy fire as it failed to make payments on its outstanding commitments. After a recent acquisition, that business is now known as eRena.
