Mamie Laverock’s recuperation after her balcony fall is going well. In a video update released on Friday, August 2, the actress—who fell five stories from a balcony in May—was shown getting up and walking for the first time since the incident.
The caption said “Thank you surgeon’s, thank you prayers, thank you Lord. Mamie has just taken her first steps,”
“It does feel really weird. It feels really weird.”
Laverock appeared in a hospital video surrounded by her family. She was greeted by two medical staff who expressed their presence, despite her nervousness. Laverock then placed her hands on a walker, wheeled by the medics, expressing her uncertainty about her ability to continue.
The Staff member said “So what you can do, you can even push off from the bed,” to which Laverock replied “Yeah,”. Then, with each of the medics supporting her arm, she grasped the walker and got herself up.
Family members clapped and cheered as Laverock stood up, she then said “It does feel really weird. It feels really weird.”
Laverock paused for a few seconds before stating, “It feels very wobbly.” Then one of the paramedics asked her whether she could keep her feet apart. The actress replied, “Oh my gosh, the ski boots are really hard,” and then she shuffled her feet apart.
A medic instructed Laverock to place her weight on the right and slightly on the left, and he held her hand in case. A family member reported her dad watching her FaceTime.
Laverock, feeling a fall, was encouraged by a medic to use a walker for assistance. She asked her dad if he was on Facetime, and he confirmed.
Laverock, standing alone, took steps with her left leg and walked with the walker, causing her family to be delighted.
She sustained “life-threatening injuries,” from the fall
Laverock fell from a balcony walkway on May 26, sustaining life-threatening injuries. She had been transferred to a Vancouver hospital after suffering a medical emergency.
The family set up a GoFundMe page to support her, which has since shut down.
On July 8, the actress celebrated her 20th birthday while undergoing treatment. The day following, Laverock’s mother Rockmann posted a picture of herself holding her daughter in the hospital room on Facebook along with a health report.
She wrote “Mamie moved onto her stomach, pushed herself up and held onto me.. at that moment we realized we could have our first hug,Thank you Rob for capturing this moment,”
