Pakistani musician Haniya Aslam, known as half of the musical duo Zeb-Haniya, tragically passed away at the young age of 39 due to cardiac arrest. This heartbreaking news was confirmed by none other than her cousin and former bandmate, Zeb Bangash, who took to Instagram to share the sorrowful announcement with their fans and followers.
Haniya was a celebrated singer in the Pakistani music industry
Haniya, a highly acclaimed singer from Pakistan, made history by establishing the Zeb-Haniya band, which was the pioneering all-female band in Pakistan. She garnered widespread recognition following the release of her captivating performance of the song Chal Diye on the popular music platform, Coke Studio Pakistan, solidifying her status as a musical icon in the country.
In 2014, she moved to Canada for a solo career.
Zeb and Haniya have also collaborated with Indian artists, most notably with A R Rahman on the song Sooha Saaha from the 2014 film Highway. The song marks Alia Bhatt’s debut.
Zeb confirmed her death on Instagram, sharing a series of photos of Haniya with her guitar, singing and playing music. In the caption, she simply wrote, “Hanini (stardust emoticon).”
“Rest in peace dear Haniya”
Swanand Kirkire, a singer and lyricist, commented on the post “WTF … what happend ? OMG” He later penned a note on his X account and said, “My dear friend Haniya Aslam (from Zeb and Haniya) has left us. She had a cardiac arrest. Rest in peace dear Haniya.”
Several followers expressed their condolences in the comments area of Zeb’s article after learning of the awful news. One fan wrote, “Thank you for the music and memories.” My condolences. May she rest in peace, Zeb, with love and hugs. A second fan wrote, “Lost for words… just hoping she’s singing with the angels.” Another said, “Her music will last forever! Sending my heartfelt sympathy. “May she rest in eternal peace,” added another fan.
