Billy Crudup couldn’t contain his joy as he accepted his Emmy Award, with his thoughts fixated on his beloved wife, Naomi Watts, during the memorable moment on Sunday, Sept. 15.
The esteemed actor, aged 56, shared his heartfelt sentiments in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the prestigious Apple TV+ Emmys Party following the grand event.
Revealing his innermost feelings, The Morning Show star delved into the emotions that swept over him as he learned of his remarkable win in the category of outstanding supporting actor in a drama series, offering a glimpse into the depth of his appreciation and gratitude towards his spouse.
“Don’t black out, don’t throw up, kiss my wife,”
Crudup said “Don’t black out, don’t throw up, kiss my wife,” when asked if he was able to do those things he replied with “Yep”.
Watts tells PEOPLE that she was simply filled with “pure excitement” for her husband. She was also nominated for her part in Feud: Capote vs. the Swans.
She said “I was very proud of him and he works really hard on this character and loves the material and so I just felt really happy for him,”
“All of my friends are actors”
Regarding what it meant to be supported by his wife, he said “What can I tell you, man? It’s f—ing awesome.”
Regarding his win he also said “At this point in my career, to get the opportunity to play a character like this, that people respond to, and test the limits of my ability, it’s really rare, All of my friends are actors. I know how rare it is, so I feel grateful that I’m in the middle of my life and can appreciate this kind of chance.”
For his performance as UBA president Cory Ellison in the Apple TV+ series, Crudup won an Emmy for the second time; the first time he did so was in 2020.
The actor won the award over co-stars of The Crown’s Jonathan Pryce, Slow Horses’ Jack Lowden, and Shōgun’s Tadanobu Asano and Takehiro Hira, as well as Jon Hamm and Mark Duplass.
He also added “This is an incredible honor. Thank you all. I’m happy to be here with my piece of eye candy there, my wife, who also happens to be an immigrant and also gave a searing performance this year for which she’s nominated. And she starts businesses, too. So nice to be by her side.”
He concluded the speech by saying “This process has been incredible for me and I hope everybody else who is involved knows how much it means to me, so thank you all, And also ‘Hi’ to the kids. I know you’re watching wherever you are.”
