LeBron James, a legendary figure in the NBA, shared an unforgettable and historic moment with his son, Bronny, on Sunday night. The father-son duo’s unique bond was showcased as they took the court together for the first time during the Los Angeles Lakers’ preseason matchup against Phoenix.

This extraordinary event not only marked their debut playing side by side but also etched their names in NBA history as the first-ever father and son to accomplish this feat.

Remarkably, this milestone coincided with Bronny’s 20th birthday, making it an even more special and memorable occasion for the James family.

Bronny James entered the game as a substitute

Replacing his father on the floor following the stoppage, Bronny James came into the game to start the second quarter. When Bronny’s name was spoken, the Coachella Valley crowd at Acrisure Arena cheered.

LeBron James Jr., also known as Bronny, was selected by the Lakers in the second round of this summer’s draft. LeBron James is starting his record-tying 22nd season in the NBA.

Bronny played just one season at the University of Southern California before declaring for the draft and signing with the Lakers after recuperating from a heart crisis more than a year ago.

At the following dead ball, LeBron came off the court 25 seconds after Bronny was substituted out at 4:09 in the second quarter.

LeBron James, the greatest scorer in NBA history, will be 40 in late December, but he hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. The Lakers made his lifelong ambition of playing in the NBA with one of his sons a reality by selecting Bronny with the 55th choice in the draft. He has talked for years about this dream.

The Lakers have four more preseason games

The 6-foot-2 Bronny will probably play with his 6-foot-9 father in a real game early in the regular season, but he is expected to spend the majority of the upcoming season honing his craft with the G League’s South Bay Lakers.

The Lakers have already talked about the details of the upcoming historic event, according to head coach JJ Redick, but he hasn’t disclosed when it will occur.

LeBron rested after a full week of training camp after a busy summer by missing the Lakers’ preseason opener against Minnesota on Friday night. In his 16 minutes of action against the Timberwolves, Bronny finished with two points on 1-for-6 shooting and three blocked shots.

Before starting the regular season at home against Minnesota on October 22, the Lakers have four additional preseason games scheduled, all of which will take place outside of Los Angeles as their home arena is being refurbished.

In 2004, LeBron and Savannah Brinson, his high school sweetheart, became parents for the first time while he was only beginning his second NBA season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Son Bryce and daughter Zhuri were their other two children.

Ever since LeBron came back from his summer vacation and won a gold medal with the American team in the Olympics in Paris, he and Bronny have been getting ready for the opportunity to play together. After an equally hectic summer, Anthony Davis also made his preseason debut against the Suns.

During practices at the Lakers’ training facility, the father and son have frequently scrimmaged against one another as opponents and teammates. Redick claimed that as a practice, they had even done pick-and-rolls together.

They will become the latest in a select group of dads and sons who have participated in professional sports in North America during the regular season. Hockey legend Gordie Howe played with his sons Marty and Mark for the NHL’s Hartford Whalers and the WHA’s Houston Aeros. Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr. played together with the Seattle Mariners for a portion of the 1990 and 1991 MLB seasons.
