Objects thrown onto the field by unruly fans at Dodger Stadium on Sunday caused a significant disruption, resulting in a roughly 12-minute delay during a tense playoff game featuring the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres.

This unsportsmanlike behavior not only endangered players but also marred the thrilling atmosphere of the game, prompting officials to intervene and ensure the safety and integrity of the match.

Two baseballs were thrown from the grandstands

With San Diego holding a solid 4-1 lead as they stepped into the seventh inning of Game 2 in the National League Division Series, the atmosphere in the stadium took a turn when two baseballs projectiles were hurled from the grandstands towards the direction of San Diego left fielder Jurickson Profar.

Profar, who had engaged with fans near the fence earlier in the game following an impressive catch that prevented a home run from Los Angeles’ Mookie Betts, initially played coy about possessing the ball before revealing it to the crowd.

Immediately after the baseballs were aggressively thrown in Profar’s vicinity, he wasted no time in taking his concerns to the umpires, accompanied by the San Diego manager, Mike Shildt, as they aimed to address the alarming incident promptly.

Security officers lined the field as trash was thrown toward the San Diego bullpen

In response to the escalating chaos, the security officers strategically positioned themselves along the field perimeter to contain any further disruption. Refuse was being flung in the direction of the San Diego bullpen, with the objects ominously landing near Padres outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr., prompting concern among the onlookers.

To defuse the tension, the public-address announcer urgently implored the fans in attendance to refrain from hurling additional items onto the field.

Despite the unsettling incident, San Diego managed to secure a resounding 10-2 victory in the ensuing game, effectively knotting the series at 1-1 and shifting the focus back to the thrilling on-field action.
