Ex-Chelsea and Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has confidently expressed his belief that the talented squad in the west London outfit is well-positioned to mount a serious challenge for the coveted Premier League title in the upcoming 2025-26 campaign.
With a resolute attitude and unwavering ambition, Sturridge highlights the team’s vast potential and determination to compete at the highest level, setting lofty goals for the upcoming season and signaling a strong intent to battle against formidable rivals for football supremacy.
Sturridge lavished huge praise on Maresca
The Blues, who placed sixth in the previous campaign while playing for Mauricio Pochettino, are off to a strong start in 2024–25.
They have only lost three of their twelve games under new manager Enzo Maresca. Prior to Chelsea’s 2-1 Premier League loss at Anfield, Sturridge gave Maresca a ton of praise.
Praising the Chelsea manager, Sturridge said “I think he’s done amazing, to come in and for his style tactically to be implemented in a short space of time and to get players to improve as well, going forward they’re so exciting, all across the pitch they have improved. They’re heading in the right direction, to say they’re going to challenge now is a stretch but I think next season, they will be right in the thick of things and challenge next year.”
Micah Richards also stated “I think Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool are more ruthless, I think Chelsea are good in moments.”
With 14 points from eight games, the Blues are sixth in the 2024–25 Premier League standings. They have already won four league games and scored an amazing 17 goals while conceding 10 goals.
Maresca’s team will next play in the Premier League on October 27 at home against Newcastle United, and on November 3 at Old Trafford against Manchester United. On November 10, they will then play Arsenal, a rival city team.
Liverpool beat the Blues 2-1 in their league match at Anfield
Liverpool defeated the Blues 2-1 in their league game at Anfield earlier on Sunday, October 20.
Before Nicolas Jackson leveled the score in the 48th minute, Mohamed Salah scored the first goal from the penalty spot. But Curtis Jones’ brilliant finish in the 51st minute sealed the match.
Following the game, Jamie Carragher, a legend of Liverpool, chastised Reece James, a Chelsea defender, for allowing Jones to reach Mohamed Salah’s cross.
He said “It’s so poor from Chelsea’s point of view. Reece James does really poor. You see him in that position, he ambles away really. I don’t think it is [rustiness], he can see him [Jones]. He’s ambling across, he’s two yards onside, his arms up… it’s lazy defending.”
James, 24, made his comeback to the field on Sunday following his recovery from a hamstring injury. In the 53rd minute of the game, he was replaced.
