Barcelona coach Hansi Flick refrained from making any speculative statements regarding the duration of goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s potential absence from the field.
He acknowledged that the injury suffered by Ter Stegen during their impressive 5-1 victory over Villarreal on Sunday was indeed significant. Flick emphasized the importance of conducting thorough medical assessments before a clear timeline for Ter Stegen’s recovery could be determined.
The team remains hopeful for a speedy and successful rehabilitation process for their key player.
“It looks like a serious injury”
Barcelona continued their flawless run in La Liga by securing a sixth consecutive victory, cementing their place at the top of the league standings.
However, their celebration was dampened by the distressing news of their German goalkeeper potentially facing a season-ending injury.
This unexpected setback cast a shadow over their recent success, adding an element of uncertainty to their future matches as they strive to maintain their winning streak in the midst of this challenging circumstance.
Flick said “It looks like a serious injury, he felt it, you could see it on the pitch,”
Just before halftime, Ter Stegen stumbled awkwardly after leaping for a ball, and when he was taken off the field on a stretcher, it was clear that was hurt.
The goalie hurt his right knee, which has already required two surgeries in the past few years. According to Spanish media, another surgery could terminate the season. As a result, all of his weight dropped on that leg.
“First we have to see what happens with Marc”
Questioned if he had considered a substitute already, Flick stated “I don’t like this question right after the game. First we have to see what happens with Marc, he’s our captain. I’m very sad about what happened. Please understand that I don’t want to answer this question. I haven’t been able to speak to Ter Stegen.”
Thirteen of the thirty goal attempts in the extremely entertaining match ended with the German keeper with his hands full.
Robert Lewandowski, Barcelona’s striker, said “This victory is for Ter Stegen. He’s currently in the hospital,”
