The HMD Barbie flip phone, a partnership with Mattel, is now available in retail packaging that resembles a jewelry box and includes pink-themed accessories.
It costs $129, which is significantly more than comparable phones such as the Nokia 2260 4G, but it uses the same hardware. The phone is described as “a real phone without social media.”
The Barbie flip phone is a feature phone
This feature phone, the Barbie flip phone, is designed for sending and receiving SMS messages. It also features a camera to take simple photos and apps for streaming music.
HMD is promoting the Barbie flip phone as a tool for users to aid in their digital detox, stylized with colorful cases and accessories, similar to the style of Barbie dolls.
This flip phone has a highly reflective mirror-like appearance on the outside, with a tiny 1.77-inch monochrome cover display that shows the time and date, as well as a secondary coloured 2.8-inch screen.
Flip phone is designed to match the Barbie theme
The flip phone is created with the Barbie theme in mind, down to the customized charms on the beaded lanyard, the large Barbie emblem, the easy-to-replace rear covers, and the embossed Barbie-related emojis on the keyboard. A cleaning cloth in the color pink, gems, and a set of Barbie stickers are also included.
Other notable features of the Barbie flip phone include a 0.3 MP camera with an LED flash, dual SIM capability with 4G networking, a 1,450 mAh battery with a USB-C charging connector, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The phone is powered by the Unisoc T107 CPU and has 64 MB of RAM and 128 MB of internal storage, as well as a microSD card slot that can accommodate up to 32 GB. The phone runs on S30+ and has a “Barbie-themed user interface, Easter eggs, and apps including Malibu Snake, Digital balance tips, and Barbie meditation,” according to the company’s website.
