Apple plans to introduce its iPhone 16 series on September 9 at an event called ‘It’s Glowtime’. The event, which will take place in the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California, will showcase a variety of AI capabilities and devices.

Despite the fact that the invitation did not mention the iPhone 16, the unveiling of the iPhone 16 lineup is certain, and the event will begin at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time, or 10:30 p.m. IST.

iPhone 16 series is going to be a significant release

Apple’s iPhone 16 series is a significant release due to its “Apple Intelligence” feature, which investors are interested in as it could enhance the appeal of the iPhone 16 and the entire smartphone segment, potentially boosting long-term iPhone sales.

Apple’s latest iPhones could boost sales thanks to new artificial intelligence features. Shares soared following Apple’s revelation of AI intentions at the Worldwide Developers Conference, with the possibility of AI driving iPhone sales playing a significant role.

Generative AI, which is featured in devices such as the Pixel 9 and Galaxy S24, has been fully adopted by companies such as Google and Samsung, increasing pressure on Apple to incorporate AI into iPhones.

Cupertino is ready for the AI era

That being said, Cupertino is prepared for the AI era, and Apple Intelligence will be a key difference in the iPhone 16 lineup, which is expected to comprise four models: two entry-level models (iPhone 16 and 16 Plus) and two high-end models (iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max).

Apple Intelligence will be supported by all four models as part of iOS 18’s feature set. However, the AI functions will not be available on the first day of sale for the iPhone 16. Instead, these capabilities will be available with the iOS 18.1 release, which is anticipated in mid-October.

Apple has introduced new features in its iOS 18.1 update, including writing tools, suggested replies in the Messages app, email summarization, phone call transcription, and Siri backed by OpenAI. Other features, like Image Playground and Genmoji, are expected to arrive later this year or early in 2025. Apple faces challenges in globally launching Apple Intelligence and reaching developing markets like India, which are crucial for its growth story.

Apple’s latest iPhone 16 series is expected to boost sales due to its AI features. Experts are curious about how Apple plans to monetise these features, with experts questioning whether a subscription fee will be charged for certain AI features, potentially accelerating growth in its services business, which has become increasingly important for the company in recent years.

Impact of Apple Intelligence on the iPhone won’t be drastic

Apple Intelligence is expected to have a subtle impact on the iPhone 16 lineup, with AI features gradually rolling out. However, interactions will become more personalized and the software will improve in speed and efficiency.

The higher-end Pro models will have larger screens, while the cameras will see improvements, including a tetraprism from the 15 Pro Max’s telephoto lens and an ultra-wide lens potentially increasing from 12 to 48 megapixels.

The new iPhone Pro models will feature an all-new button for video and photography, similar to a DSLR button. All four iPhones will be equipped with a new A18 processor and 8 gigabytes of memory to support Apple Intelligence features and ensure long battery life.

Apple is expected to introduce new Apple Watch models, including the high-end Ultra 3, affordable plastic Apple Watch SE, and the Series 10, with a larger screen and thinner chassis. Additionally, Apple may unveil new AirPods, including an entry-level model that may compete with low-cost TWS options, which have dominated the market and led to new domestic brands in markets like India and China.
