JD Vance, the Ohio Senator and former President Donald Trump’s vice president candidate, strongly criticized Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear for his statements on abortion exceptions.

Vance went as far as to accuse Beshear of expressing a disturbing desire by insinuating that he may secretly hope for one of his own family members to experience the horrific ordeal of rape.

Beshear attacked Republicans for supporting legislation that are anti-abortion, like those that prohibit rape or incest cases from being exempted.

“Inconvenience is traffic, make him go through this”

On Morning Joe, Beshear remarked, “JD Vance calls pregnancy resulting from rape ‘inconvenient’,” referring to a remark made by the Ohio Senator im 2021.

During that time, Vance claimed that he did not feel rape scenarios should be excused from abortion laws because the child’s birth was “inconvenient”. The Ohio senator eventually altered his mind and indicated that he is in favor of exceptions.

Beshear said “Inconvenience is traffic, make him go through this. Someone being violated, someone being harmed and then telling them they don’t have options after that. That fails any test of decency of humanity,”

Vance took offense to the Governor’s words, calling Beshear a “disgusting person” for “wishing that a member of my family would be raped.”

“He’s trying to make himself the victim”

William Martin, the director of communications for Vance, meanwhile, called Beshear’s comments “disgusting” and “vile.”

Regardless of political background, he asked Kamala Harris to promptly withdraw Beshear’s words and demonstrate that this kind of abusive language has “no place in our public discourse” in a statement.

The governor of Kentucky later clarified that Vance’s reading of his remarks was erroneous, calling them “ridiculous” and a “deflection.” He claimed “JD Vance knows he and Donald Trump are so wrong on this issue and so he’s trying to make himself the victim.”

Beshear, who has vetoed abortion legislation, criticized Vance for lacking empathy and understanding the importance of exceptions and reproductive freedom. He argued that Vance, being a man, will never have to deal with these issues directly, highlighting the need for greater empathy and understanding.

It was made plain by the governor that he would “never wish harm on anyone.”
