It Ends With Us, a new movie starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, debuted on August 9. The film has garnered attention in Hollywood, but it has also sparked speculation about a possible artistic disagreement between Lively and Baldoni.
A source revealed that the issues behind the film extend beyond the alleged disagreements.
“All is not what it seems”
The source claimed “All is not what it seems. There is much more to this story. The principal cast and [author] Colleen Hoover will have nothing to do with him.”
Based on Colleen Hoover’s novel, the movie follows Blake Lively’s character Lily Bloom as she pursues her lifelong goals until her connection with Justin Baldoni’s Ryle Kincaid throws everything off. Hasan Minhaj, Isabela Ferrer, Jenny Slate, Alex Neustaedter, and Brandon Sklenar are among the cast members.
Over the weekend, the highly anticipated film It Ends With Us managed to secure an impressive $50 million at the domestic box office, proving its widespread appeal among audiences.
Leading up to the movie’s release, there were murmurs of potential discord behind the scenes as Baldoni took the lead in managing most of the press appearances and notably abstained from group photos with the cast during the New York premiere, sparking speculation about possible tensions within the production team.
A split among the filmmakers
An individual close to Baldoni told PEOPLE on Monday that the reported problems were overstated, citing a Hollywood Reporter piece dated August 8 that cited a split among the filmmakers during post-production, resulting in the creation of two unique versions of the film.
Based on information from an insider, it has been revealed that Lively is eager to take the director’s seat for the upcoming movie, a move that may involve bypassing him and negotiating rights away from Colleen. Despite this, a source within Hollywood mentions that there is still no mention of a sequel in the works at this time.
