A former WWE Superstar recently shared a story about receiving a warning from JBL during his time on the roster. JTG recalled that this incident took place while they were planning Vince McMahon’s funeral segment on WWE RAW.
JTG Found Himself In A Difficult Situation
In 2007, Vince McMahon had intended to stage a segment about his funeral, but it was quickly scrapped following the tragic events surrounding Chris Benoit. During that period, JTG found himself in a difficult situation within the WWE locker room and had been put on trial in “wrestler’s court.” He recounted that JBL had humorously threatened him during this time.
While planning a controversial segment involving Vince McMahon’s funeral, JBL jokingly warned JTG that he better not screw it up, implying that there would be consequences if he did. The nature of JBL’s threat was meant to be lighthearted.
JBL, whose real name is John Bradshaw Layfield, is a retired American professional wrestler, commentator, and businessman. He is best known for his time in WWE, where he was a prominent figure in the early 2000s. He debuted in WWE in 1996 and initially wrestled under the name “Justin Bradshaw” as part of the tag team The New Blackjacks.
“I Had JBL Coming Up To Me”
While speaking on Sportskeeda’s UnSKripted podcast, JTG reflected on the events that led to the incident in WWE and shared:
“That day was a, what day was that… Was it the Draft, no, no. It was Vince McMahon’s funeral. Something to do with that. Yea, it was Vince McMahon’s funeral over there. We were all dressed up and all that nonsense. It was a big deal. You know in catering, I had JBL coming up to me, ‘We’re gonna get ya. We’re gonna get ya real good.’ It was like, ‘Uh.'”
JTG is currently active on the independent wrestling circuit after his release from WWE in 2014.
