What is the Dark Web?
The dark web as the name suggests, it’s not available to the general public, the dark web is a part of the internet consisting of hidden sites that require specific software, and authorization to access.
It is believed that the dark web is used by criminals for illegal activities as it uses encryption software, making the user and visitor anonymous. However, it is also used by people for legal reasons.
It can be accessed through various ways such as,
Tor: Tor is the most common way to access the dark web, and keeps the secret identity of users’ locations and usage, making it difficult to trace the activity.
I2P: Another way to access the dark web is through anonymity, used to access hidden data.
Advantage of the Dark web
Although it is believed that the dark web is used for illegal activities, Still it definitely can have advantages based on the fact that what purpose you are using it for. Communication over the dark web ensures safety and privacy. It can use for various reasons such as,
- Journalists and whistleblowers work together to expose corruption in the government;
- protestors, protesting for the rights against the government while being anonymous;
- anybody who needs medical attention without revealing their identity;
- Interviews want to keep their identity hidden.
- use for academic research
It can be used for various legitimate reasons, depending on the users, for instance, It can be used to expose any illegal work without getting the identity revealed.
Dark Web: Depending on the Ultimate User
Dark web can be used for both legitimate and illegitimate reasons, as I said before it totally depends on the user, which website he visits.
You can get some legal products such as research papers, apparel and even basketball shoes. And obviously the illegal items such as stolen netflix account, social and credit security number. These things are still considerable.
But the Dark web also contains some darkest corners where you will find: Drugs, malware, fake passports and pornography.
Dark web is not just for the criminals but a non criminal person can also use it for some good reasons.
Latest Update
According to the recent update, anybody with a google account can access the dark web.It also says that the functionality will soon be collaborated with the existing “Results about you” section that shows up in search results, helps to find and remove any personal information.
Additionally, it also updates a feature to edit and delete any personal information, users can manually add and update any information to the profile, according to themselves.
In conclusion, Dark web would now be available to everyone with just a google account whether they paid for it or not.
