OpenAI is starting to roll out an advanced voice mode to a small group of ChatGPT Plus users, the Microsoft-backed artificial intelligence startup said “We’re starting to roll out advanced Voice Mode to a small group of ChatGPT Plus users. Advanced Voice Mode offers more natural, real-time conversations, allows you to interrupt anytime, and senses and responds to your emotions.”

Delayed The Launch

The company needed some time to make the feature as per their launch standard to win over consumers’ expectations and had delayed the roll-out of their realistic voice conversation experience to July from late June.

The company said “One more month to reach our bar to launch”

The Company OpenAI said in June that they were working to improve the model’s ability to detect and refuse certain content and also trying to better the user experience by preparing its infrastructure to scale the model. The team is upgrading the model to increase its reach across the globe

A Stand Out Feature

The ChatGPT advanced voice mode is a stand-out feature as it is very different from the robotic voice that you might have come across with digital assistants like Alexa or Sir. It responds in real-time, can adjust to being interrupted, can make giggling noises when a user makes a joke and can judge a speaker’s emotional state based on their tone of voice.

This new feature will allow users to speak to ChatGPT and receive real-time responses without any delay, as well as interrupt ChatGPT while it is speaking – both tenets of realistic conversations that have proven to be a challenge for AI assistants.

The advanced voice mode will work with the most powerful version of the chatbot, ChatGPT-4o and will begin rolling out to paid users. Advanced voice mode will start rolling out to a small group of subscribers to the app’s “Plus” mode, to make it available to all Plus users in the fall.
