Google recently revealed that it will be introducing several new features to NotebookLM, its AI-driven note-taking app that can summarize, explain, and generate content from your documents.
NotebookLM with YouTube and Audio File Summarization
In a blog post, the tech giant announced that NotebookLM, powered by Gemini 1.5 Pro, can now summarize YouTube videos and audio files. Google noted that users are utilizing these “new source types” to obtain key summaries of important concepts and to explore videos through inline citations linked to the transcript. For audio recordings, NotebookLM can help users locate specific information, eliminating the need to listen to lengthy audio files.
Google’s AI-powered note-taking tool can also analyze and transform class recordings, handwritten notes, and lecture slides into “comprehensive study guides” for easy access.
To summarize a YouTube video or analyze an audio file, just open NotebookLM in your preferred browser and create a new notebook.
NotebookLM Adds Audio Uploads for AI Podcasts
You will now have the option to either upload an audio file or paste a public YouTube video link. After doing this, click on the “Generate an Audio Overview” button and wait for a few seconds to a couple of minutes. Users can also easily share the AI-generated Audio Overview with others with just a single tap.
Earlier this month, Google launched Audio Overview, a feature that enables users to convert their research notes into an AI-generated podcast. Now, the tech giant is adding a “share” button that creates a public link, making it easy for users to share the podcast with others.
While some may view NotebookLM as an AI chatbot, the tool cannot browse the internet for information. Instead, it relies on your documents for training. Additionally, unlike AI chatbots like Gemini that can engage in natural conversations, NotebookLM is primarily designed for summarizing and explaining information.
