According to a Reuters report, Amazon’s upgraded version of Alexa which is set to launch this year will be using Anthropic’s Claude AI mode, as Amazon had invested $4 billion last year. This decision came after Amazon’s own AI technology was found to be struggling with words and takes six or seven seconds to prompt responses.
Facing Stiff Competition
The technology is “riddled with technical and bureaucratic problems,” said former machine learning scientist for Alexa AI Mihail Eric on X as the new version has had several issues since its announcement.
Amazon’s AI is facing huge competition from big tech like OpenAI’s Advanced Voice Mode for ChatGPT, Google Gemini’s voice chat mode, and the upcoming Siri’s Apple AI.
“Amazon uses many different technologies to power Alexa. When it comes to machine learning models, we start with those built by Amazon, but we have used and will continue to use, a variety of different models — including (Amazon AI model) Titan and future Amazon models, as well as those from partners — to build the best experience for customers,” Amazon states, as per Reuters.
Pricing And Launching Date
According to The Washington reports, The new version “Remarkable Alexa” is set to launch in mid-October, with unique features including daily AI-generated news summaries, a child-focused chatbot, and conversational shopping tools.
The price may be ranging from $5-10 monthly subscription. However, the current version “Classic Alexa” will continue to be available free of cost.
However, Amazon has not yet made any statement on its plans for organizing the event, the first major public appearance of its new devices. As per the reports, it could delay or alter the launch if the technology didn’t meet their expectations.
