A woman, Abby Weiss while performing her favorite sport acroyoga, became paralyzed from her neck down as she fell and sustained injuries on her spinal cord.
A Sport That Resulted In Life-Altering Accident
Acroyoga, a sport that is a combination of yoga and acrobatic, results in a tragic condition for the 32-year-old woman, something she has been doing for four years, the New York Post reported. Her family and friends are doing everything to help her.
The accident forced Weiss to leave San Diego and move back to Chicago with her family, as she can no longer live independently. While for Weiss medical care, her friend, Renee Smith, started a GoFundMe and says that she remains hopeful about walking again while undergoing therapy at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago, People reported
The Campaign Helping Weiss In Her Medical Journey
“She has had sensation returning to different parts of her body, which is always incredible news to hear. She will eventually leave acute care and begin outpatient therapy. This next transition is another complex step and her family is preparing for this actively,” said Smith
The campaign created by smith has collected over 1,700 donations and raised over $160,000 of its $250,000 goal. The woman’s family will always be grateful for the contribution and appreciates the support as they remain “focused on helping Abby through this next chapter,” says Smith.
“It’s truly been moving to see all the support from the community. I know that Abby was personally touched, and her mother has shared several times that she is truly humbled and thankful for the outpouring of support for her daughter,” Smith says
“This past week marked two months since her accident; her close friends paused to take a moment to reflect on all the events that have occured in the past two months, and wholeheartedly appreciate the community that has come together and shown up to support Abby and her family during this period,” Smith added.
Family and Friends Support
Abby’s father, Rory Weiss talks about his family’s support to help Abby recover from the paralysis and also expressed his gratitude towards contributors who are helping them in Abby’s medical journey.
“Everything has to be done for her. The medical bills are astronomical. We have insurance, but caregivers and therapy, there’s no end. People we don’t even know have contributed [to the GoFundMe]. It’s just amazing.”
