On Thursday, September 5, The Kamala Harris campaign pointed out Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance following his comment that school shootings in the US are a “fact of life”. Also, he said that the country needs to immediately tighten security to prevent more gun violence in the future.
“We Have To Get Over It”
Vance’s comments came after four people died in a high school shooting in Georgia and reignited debate on gun violence in the US. In a statement attacking the Harris campaign said, “Yesterday, Vice President Harris said it doesn’t have to be this way in response to another senseless school shooting. Donald Trump and JD Vance think school shootings are a fact of life and we have to get over it,” reported by News 18.
Vance said previously at a rally in Phoenix, “If these psychos are going to go after our kids we’ve got to be prepared for it.” “We don’t have to like the reality that we live in, but it is the reality we live in. We’ve got to deal with it.” The Trump campaign backed Vance’s remarks, claiming that the Republican vice presidential nominee’s statement was taken out of context.
“Kamala’s interns just released a statement pushing FAKE NEWS that the Associated Press just retracted. Watch the full video and you’ll clearly see that JD Vance does not say what they claim he said. These morons do nothing but lie every single day,” the Trump campaign stated.
Harris Supports Stricter Gun Controls
Vice President Kamala Harris, head of the new White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, has supported stricter gun controls, including banning AR-15s and similar rifles, as well as improving school security measures, such as ensuring classroom doors cannot be locked from the outside as they were in the Parkland shooting.
Vance said the shooting in Georgia was an “awful tragedy,” and also noted that the families in Winder, Georgia, need prayers and sympathy.
