Women Flyers Accused Of Child Abuse In China

A video surfaced on social media sparked outrage among the public, where two women flyers locked a crying 3-year-old child in an airplane washroom in China to “set some rules.” The flyers are now facing accusations of child abuse.

Separated And Locked In The Restroom

According to Chinese news outlet Sixth Tone, the incident happened on August 24 in a Juneyao Airlines flight from Guiyang to Shanghai, where the toddler was traveling with her grandmother started crying and was separated from her grandmother and locked in the restroom in an attempt to help other fellow passengers from disturbance.

The whole incident was posted by a woman named Gou Tingting on her social media. The clip showed the woman herself carrying the girl to the washroom.

As per a Chinese outlet, one woman can be heard saying in the clip, “If you make any noise again, we will leave you here alone.”

The footage also showed another woman telling the child she could only leave if she stopped crying.

Grandmother Had Agreed With The Action

As per the airline, they had talked to the toddler’s mother, who had approved their action and her grandmother had agreed to let the two women take her to the restroom. Despite this, the explanation did little to calm the backlash.

Concerning that the incident can negatively impact the child’s mental health, many commented

“Adults in their 30s can have emotional breakdowns, but people don’t allow toddlers to have theirs,” said one comment on China’s X-like Weibo platform, a report by CNN

“We were all once children … Don’t be a cold-blooded adult,” another commented.

Impatience Towards Young Children

The child’s mother, Wang Xin told Sixth Tone that she felt the incident highlighted the growing impatience toward young children and said, “Nowadays, people have a low tolerance for children crying. To avoid the problem, I always tried to drive rather than take public transport when my child was young.”

The recent incidents of children crying and acting out during traveling have sparked an ongoing debate where the government is persuading couples to have more children. The incident questions the parenting and accused parents of their children’s behavior.
