A Frontier Airlines jet experienced a frighteningly close call with fire while landing in Las Vegas over the weekend.
“The Pilots Detected Smoke And Declared An Emergency”
The incident happened to a flight from San Diego as the aircraft was landing at Harry Reid International Airport at about 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, according to a statement from Frontier Airlines.
“As Flight 1326 was in the process of landing at LAS this afternoon … The pilots detected smoke and declared an emergency. The aircraft landed safely and all passengers and crew were evacuated via airstairs,” Frontier mentioned on X (formerly Twitter).
Flight 1326 from San Diego was caught in a dramatic situation as smoke filled the cockpit, leading the pilots to declare an emergency. Authorities are investigating the details surrounding the emergency landing. A Twitter user shared videos of the incident, highlighting the quick response of firefighters.
The tweet described the evacuation process,”Caught me by surprise. Firefighters sprayed the aircraft with foam, according to @liveatc they’ll be evacuating by stairs (not blowing any slides).”, per the Mirror.
NTSB Investigates Hard Landing Incident Involving Frontier Flight
In a clip footage acquired by CNN and ABC News, the plane landed on the runway, flames and smoke was visible beneath its wings and fuselage.
No casualties were reported among the 190 passengers and seven crew members on board the plane during the incident.
The Clark County Fire Department responded shortly after the landing, and the passengers were transported to their terminal by bus, according to CNN.
As per airport officials, CNN, and ABC News, the plane “experienced a hard landing where basically tires blew.”
The National Transportation Safety Board announced on X that it is investigating the cause of the incident in a statement released on Sunday, Oct. 6.
