Midfielder Julian Gressel from Inter Miami thinks MLS teams will be cautious of Lionel Messi’s return. Messi has not been active since July as he focuses on his fitness, however, Tata Martino expects his return this month.
Watching From The Sidelines
Despite an injury-hit tournament, Messi led Argentina to a Copa America victory, scoring one goal and an assist.
His most significant injury occurred in the final against Colombia, where he sprained and damaged the ligaments in his ankle. Since then, Messi has been inoperative. He is watching from the sidelines as Inter Miami was defeated in the Leagues Cup.
Lionel Messi, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, has been a pivotal figure in soccer. He plays as a forward for and captains both Major League Soccer club Inter Miami and the Argentina national team and is regarded as the greatest of all time player.
USMNT midfielder Gressel is happy with the performance of the team this season. He told MLS Wrap-Up how much other teams will likely fear Messi’s return.
“He Can Join Us On The Field For The Next Game”
“It’s Lionel Messi, I don’t think I really need to say much on what contribution he brings here. We’ve been very good without him, now you add a player like him into this team, and I’m sure other teams are looking at that and are a little bit scared of us. He has a couple of weeks to get back to game fitness, and hopefully he can join us on the field for the next game,” said Gressel as he is excited for Messi’s return, reported by Sportskeeda.
Tata Martino expects Lionel Messi to return when Inter Miami plays Philadelphia Union on September 14. The 37-year-old Argentine footballer was omitted from Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers this month to focus on his fitness.
Lionel Messi is likely to play a significant role in Inter Miami as they are expected to make the playoffs for a chance to win the MLS Cup in October, having missed out last year.
