Dwayne Johnson & Scarlett Johansson Tops The Forbes’ List Of Payrolls

As gender pay gap has prevailed to be a hot topic in Hollywood throughout, that it has not been completely erased came out evident from Forbes’ list of actor and actress’ payrolls where Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Scarlett Johansson have respectively topped the trend. The 47-year-old former WWE World Champion earned a whopping $89.4 million excluding taxes, while the 35-year-old star of The Avengers received $56 million contrastingly.

To one’s utter surprise, Johansson would be eighth on the male list behind Adam Sandler at $57 million when compared.

Cumulatively, the top 10 actors nearly doubled the pay of their female counterparts with nearly $600 million while the top 10 actresses made a total of $315 million, data summarizing on-screen and off-screen earnings between June 1, 2018, and June 1, 2019, revealed.

Celebrating The Uneven Lines Of Success

Scarlett’s role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Black Widow fetched a lump sum of her earnings with an eight-figure salary plus backend points on Marvel films. Nearly $12 million drop-offs were recorded on the actress’ list moving from Johansson to the second talent Sofia Vergara whose earnings amounted to $44.1 million over the period.

The 57-year-old American-Colombian star is the renowned highest-paid actress on Television starring in Modern Family besides running lucrative entrepreneurial ventures like Sofia Jeans and a furniture range at Rooms To Go.

Eradicating The Pay Differences: Actor-Cum-Producer

Many of the actresses have strode to close the pay gap by producing their own projects including Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman, and Reese Witherspoon. Also, seven of the top 10 highest-earning actresses of 2019 turned out to be the producers of their own projects.

Casting A Look At The High-End Calculations

A study into the wages of 250 Hollywood stars in more than 1,300 films has found male actors can earn up to seven-figures more than a woman that has not changed much since the 1980s, hardly showing ‘any signs of improving’ according to ‘The Guardian’. The survey also pointed out that women earn $1.1 million less per film than male co-stars with a similar level of experience in the industry.
