Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have moved to the United States, the couple’s clash with the royal family has continued. However, a new royal book suggests that after an emotional evening at Buckingham Palace following Queen Elizabeth II’s death, Kate Middleton and Prince William extended a “small gesture” of reconciliation to the couple.
Royal Family Gathered at Buckingham Palace
The gesture is said to have occurred when the royal family gathered at Buckingham Palace after the Queen’s coffin arrived as the family awaited an informal dinner. According to Robert Hardman’s biography Charles II: New King, New Court, William and Kate extended an olive branch, which the Queen would have approved.
“Inside the palace, all members of the Royal Family were there to welcome the Queen back to Royal headquarters for the last time, followed by an informal supper. Afterward, the Prince and Princess of Wales suggested that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should attach their car to their police escort for the journey back to Windsor since they were all going the same way.”Hardman wrote
“It was only a small gesture (they would not be sharing a car) and nowhere near any sort of reconciliation. However, the late Queen would have approved,” he added.
Provocative Netflix Docuseries
Moreover, The Queen’s death occurred a few months before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released their provocative Netflix docuseries, which made several explosive claims about the royal family. Both William and King Charles were heavily criticized in the series by accusing William of “screaming and shouting” and King Charles of “lying” during a prominent summit.
The Sussexes have often criticized the Waleses since they left the royal family. Harry notably criticized members of his family in his memoir, Spare. The memoir also mentions Kate’s grimace when Meghan borrowed her lip gloss and recounted a disagreement in which Meghan commented Kate had “baby brain” after Prince Louis was born.
