Kevin McGarry and Kayla Wallace share a real-life love story and met during the filming of When Calls the Heart. They both joined the series for season 6, which was shot in 2018 summer and premiered in the spring.

The Couple Announced Their Engagement

In November 2020, The couple confirmed their relationship on social media when the shooting of season 8 started. After two years in December 2022, they announced their engagement.

Although the actors didn’t reveal much details about their romance, in March 2024, McGarry talked about their connection to Entertainment Tonight. He hints that their relationship started because of their love for music and says, “We’ll play music together. … We collaborated.

As they plan their upcoming wedding, Kevin McGarry is leaving the finer details to his fiancée, Kayla Wallace. From choosing the cake to deciding on a first look before the ceremony, McGarry said it’s all about “whatever Kayla wants” for their big day

“It’s going to be intimate, but I know there will be a couple of familiar faces there,” said McGarry, reported by People.

They Weren’t Involved Romantically 

Kevin McGarry was cast as Nathan Grant, one of Hope Valley’s mounties in When Calls the Heart, while Kayla Wallace portrayed Fiona Miller for five seasons. Wallace’s character departed from the show ahead of season 11 due to busy schedules. 

The couple was not involved romantically for a long time in the series despite their off-screen romance. 

Kevin McGarry and Kayla Wallace aren’t the only couple to emerge from When Calls the Heart. Erin Krakow, who plays Elizabeth Thornton, and her co-star Ben Rosenbaum, who portrays Mike Hickam, confirmed their relationship in February 2024 after much speculation from fans.

“I think there’s just always been a bit of magic in Hope Valley. There’s something so special about our show and the energy in Jamestown [British Columbia, Canada], where we shoot,” Krakow told People. 

“There’s just something special about the show and the people involved. When you put a bunch of special people together in one place, connections are bound to be made,” she added.
