Olympian Abbey Weitzeil, 27, married Michael Jensen at Silverado Resort in Napa, California, on Saturday, September 21. The swimmer shared with People that the wedding was a heartfelt family affair, with many of her loved ones participating in special roles throughout the ceremony and reception.
“We Wanted To Have Everyone We Love”
“Our wedding was extremely special, as our family was a huge part of it,” Weitzeil said.
The wedding ceremony was led by Richard Lamoureux, the Olympian’s uncle, while her aunt made the special wedding cake with white chocolate ganache and buttercream frosting. Weitzeil’s cousin, Aubree Nelson, crafted the wedding’s flower arrangements through her business, Lavender Haven Floral.
“We wanted to have everyone we love all in the same place to celebrate. One of our favorite things is to bring our friends together, and we [envisioned] a huge celebration and party with dancing and celebrating,” the athlete said.
The couple also included special moments just for themselves, such as a first look that provided them with a “private moment together” before the ceremony began.
After the first look, the couple also exchanged handwritten vows in front of their family and friends. “We love the idea of sharing with everyone why they are there to celebrate with us,” Weitzeil stated.
It Was A Dream Come True For Weitzeil
The couple included a fun variety of activities for their family and friends such as a wine-tasting event on Thursday at their favorite winery, Whitehall Lane, and a men’s golf tournament on Friday, and a rehearsal dinner and welcome party.
The wedding took place on Saturday, with Weitzeil walking down the aisle in a stunning strapless Kim Kassas corseted gown featuring a drop waist and intricate detailing. The Olympic gold medalist swimmer calls the gown “one of the most flattering items” she had ever “put on.”
For the bride’s grand entry, her friend and fellow Olympian Elizabeth Beisel performed on original piano recordings of a Taylor Swift song.
Following the ceremony, Weitzeil changed into a minidress that allowed her to dance comfortably, showcasing the moves she and Jensen had practiced during their dance lessons. Their hard work paid off as they expertly waltzed on the checkerboard dance floor, provided by Bickner, to Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey.”
Weitzeil described the wedding as “a dream come true,” expressing immense joy in marrying her “best friend” and celebrating with “everyone we love.”
