Kate Winslet reveals her plans to celebrate her birthday and says, “Well, it’ll be a quiet one. I like to keep things small,” according to People.
Winslet Plans 50 Meaningful Experiences For Her Birthday
Winslet will mark her 50th birthday in 2025; she mentioned it to Harper’s Bazaar in August without drawing much attention. “I don’t like big parties, and I can’t stand surprises,” Winslet stated.
“I want to spend the year doing 50 remarkable things, whether that’s a particular hike I’ve never done, or a place I’ve never been, acts of kindness — I’m gathering a little list,” said Winslet, who has a son named Bear, 10, with her husband, Edward Abel Smith, 46, a former executive at Virgin Galactic. She also shares a son, Joe, 20, with ex-husband Sam Mendes, and a daughter, Mia, 23, with ex Jim Threapleton.
Despite the challenges, Winslet has a lot to celebrate lately. She produced and stars in the upcoming film Lee, which tells the story of pioneering model and World War II photographer Lee Miller. It took nearly a decade to bring this project to life, and she takes great pride in overcoming the obstacles along the way.
When Winslet sought financing for Lee, she encountered men who would ask her, “Why should I like this woman?” She describes these comments as “ridiculous,” as reported by People.
She confessed that there were times she doubted if the film would ever materialize, recalling thoughts like, “‘Oh my God, how is this ever going to happen? How am I going to keep going?’”
However, with the support of Miller’s son, Antony Penrose, and her producing partner, Kate Solomon, Winslet persevered and completed the film, which is now showing in theaters.
Winslet Reflects On Her Impressive Career
Reflecting on her three-decade Hollywood career that started with her role in Peter Jackson’s 1994 film Heavenly Creatures, Winslet finds it hard to believe all that she has achieved.
“The pride I feel is enormous in the things that I have been able to do,” said the seven-time Oscar nominee.
“And to be able to say that I’m proud of myself matters, because I think that that’s something else I hope to put out there — that women should be able to stand with pride and acknowledge that and not feel like they are bigging themselves up,” she added.
“It’s a self-acceptance and an awareness of doing something that is challenging and that feels impactful and takes effort like you wouldn’t believe,” she further stated.
