Joey Lawrence Had An Affair With Alves Amid Split With Samantha Cope

A source close to People revealed that Lawrence, 48, and his ex-wife parted ways after he started a relationship with Melina Alves, his co-star and writer on the film Soaked In For Christmas. The couple’s divorce was announced on August 21 after two years of marriage and infidelity was the reason for their divorce 

Lawrence Had An Affair 

On August 22, TMZ reported that Alves’ estranged husband, Edward Rider, discovered that Alves was having an affair with Lawrence, and Rider’s divorce paperwork was filed a few weeks before Cope filed for separation. Rider claims the affair started in California during the filming of “Socked In For Christmas.”

The source close to People said “Joey met Melina Alves on the set of their movie, where she was a producer. He then love-bombed her just like he love-bombed Samantha. He continued to date Melina even after Samantha found out about it and confronted him.”

When Cope, “wanted to go to counseling,” Lawrence “fooled their counselor” and would “get ready for dates with Melina while Sam watched, bawling her eyes out,” the source added 

Speculation About The Couple’s Divorce 

In People’s photos, The speculation about the former couple’s separation was first heard when Cope was absent from the picture and Lawrence was spotted without a wedding ring on his Jamaica family vacation. 

“Nothing matters more in this life than the beautiful memories you share with loved ones. It was a vacation of a lifetime and we can’t wait to go back!” the brothers told People at the time. 

“I Never Dated Somebody” 

In 2023 before Cope filed for divorce, Lawrence told People about how unexpected it was as he had never been in a serious relationship 

“I never dated somebody that I’d worked with before. That was just very, very much out of the ordinary for me. I’ve never actually gotten into a serious relationship with somebody that I actually worked with, never.”

“It was very unexpected. These wild twists and turns that you get to be our age. You just kind of go, ‘All right, well, I guess that’s what it is.’ You learn to accept the unorthodox way some things just sort of roll out and you’re thankful for — you’re thankful for it, even though it’s not what you expected.” he further stated
