Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe, 35, has paid honor to his co-star Dame Maggie Smith after the death of the actress on Friday at the age of 89. Radcliffe shared a heartwarming message on his memories of working with the actress and recalls his first meeting on the set of David Copperfield when he was just 9 years old.
“She Laughed And Said Something To The Effect”
According to a report by Page Six, Radcliffe recalled how his parents were “awestruck” at the thought of working with the renowned actress, “The other thing I knew about her was that she was a Dame, so the first thing I asked her when we met was ‘would you like me to call you Dame?’ at which she laughed and said something to the effect of ‘don’t be ridiculous!” he stated.
Radcliffe mentioned that during their first collaboration, Smith’s kind and warm traits made him feel comfortable. “She was incredibly kind to me on that shoot, and then I was lucky enough to go on working with her for another 10 years on the ‘Harry Potter’ films,” he continued.
The two actors appeared together in all eight Harry Potter films, with Radcliffe playing the role of the titular character and Smith playing the role of Professor Minerva McGonagall.
“She had a fierce intellect and a gloriously sharp tongue. [Maggie] could intimidate and charm in the same instant and was, as everyone will tell you, extremely funny,” Radcliffe said.
Radcliffe Appreciates The Time He Spent On Set Working With The Smith
Radcliffe describes his experience working with the actress and appreciates the time he spent with her on set.
“I will always consider myself amazingly lucky to have been able to work with her, and to spend time around her on set,” Radcliffe further continued. “The word legend is overused but if it applies to anyone in our industry then it applies to her. Thank you, Maggie,” as reported by Wionews.
Smith’s family revealed that the actress died peacefully in the hospital, near her dear ones.
